Disciple Bible Studies

If you make my word your home, you will indeed by my disciples.
John 8:31, The New Jerusalem Bible

In this verse, Jesus issues a challenge to those who would be his disciples: take up residence in my teaching.  Spend time with me, long enough to feel at home with me.  Nothing less will do.

Disciple Bible Studies offer a way to meet this challenge.  Disciple challenges small groups to submit to examination by scripture, to put themselves under the power of God's Word, and to be changed.

Long Term Disciple Classes

Becoming Disciples Through Bible Study (Disciple I)

This is a 34 week Bible study with daily preparation and weekly group sessions.
Two Disciple I classes are being formed:
  • Monday mornings, 9:30 - 11:30, led by Dr. Wagner
  • Tuesday evenings, 7:00 - 9:00

Into the Word into the World (Disciple II)

This is a thirty-two week study of Genesis, Exodus, Luke, and Acts.
Two times are being offered this year:
  • Sunday evenings, 5:30 - 7:30
  • Thursday mornings, 9:30 - 11:30
Disciple I is a prerequisite for this class.

Short Term Disciple Classes

For the first time, we are offering several new short-term studies for those who find this schedule more convenient.  There are no prerequisites for these classes.

Invitation to the Old Testament

This study approaches the Hebrew scriptures by inviting participants to hear God's calling of Israel through many "voices."
This class will meet on Monday mornings from 9:30 to 11:30 for 8 weeks beginning on August 11.

Invitation to the New Testament

Starting with Matthew's gospel, this study explores how the New Testament writers and the early Christian community wrestled with the coming of Jesus - his life, actions, mission, death, and resurrection - and the implications for their lives and for their faith communities.
This class will meet on Monday mornings from 9:30 to 11:30 for 8 weeks beginning on October 13.

Invitation to Genesis

This study approaches the Book of Genesis as a story of many beginnings.  It invites participants to listen afresh to the Hebrew Bible and to understand more clearly God's purpose in forming his people.
This class will meet on Monday mornings from 9:30 to 11:30 for 10 weeks beginning on September 8.

Invitation to Romans

Romans has influenced some of the great formers and reformers of the church.  In spite of centuries of commentary, this study should inform your own interpretation.
This class will meet on Monday mornings from 9:30 to 11:30 for 8 weeks beginning in January.
