About the Alpharetta Presbyterian Youth Ministry

Our Ministry
Alpharetta Presbyterian Church is a reflection of our community. Approximately 20% of our church members are youth or young adults. Our youth and young adult ministry emphasizes working with families to connect young people and the church in meaningful and engaging ways. Our program addresses the main parts of our mission statement: educate, nurture, and prepare.
Our Mission Statement
The mission of the Alpharetta Presbyterian Youth Ministry is to reach the youth of our church and community, to help educate and nurture them in our faith in Jesus Christ, and prepare them for mature Christian adulthood in the church and in the world.
"TO HELP EDUCATE..."
Sunday School
Our Sunday school classes provide a structured setting for studying scripture and its application to contemporary life. Our classes encourage independent reading and study. We want our students to develop an awareness of scripture, to apply the Word to daily decision making, and to learn how mature adults consider scripture in their lives.
Confirmation
This eighth grade class explores the confirmation process which prepares teens for the responsibilities of mature church membership. Upon completion, the youth's confirmation vows fufill the promises that their parents and the congregation made at their baptism
"...AND NURTURE THEM IN OUR FAITH..."
Youth Group
|
The Youth Group meets on Sunday evenings for dinner, fun, and fellowship in the community of faith. We work to nurture the faith of our youth in the following ways:
-
Provide a place where youth feel that they are heard
-
Provide a loving, safe and encouraging environment
-
Provide small group (peer) support that emphasizes acceptance and respect for others
-
Provide opportunities for open discussion about real issues and the study of scripture to discern God’s will
-
Provide for the regular study of scripture
|
Retreats
Multiple retreats are conducted each year for small groups. These provide opportunities for discovery and renewal through worship and fellowship in environments where the clutter and distraction of daily life are temporarily suspended.
"....AND PREPARE THEM FOR MATURE CHRISTIAN ADULTHOOD...."
Mission
|
In addition to the above programs, we conduct multiple activities where our youth put faith into action. The youth take responsibility for planning and leading mission efforts that reach across the congregation and community. The summer program schedule includes several mission trips that promote Christian maturity by:
-
Fostering a servant attitude
-
Building lasting relationships based on shared values and experiences
-
Expanding cultural awareness and providing opportunities for leadership
|
Leadership
A significant part of our youth ministry program challenges young people to take responsibility for themselves and others. Leadership development activities connect students with adults who model Christian behavior daily.
